Øje, ø 2026
A thin strip of birch veneer forms an arch. At each end of the arch, a ceramic vessel is holding it in place by its own weight. The vessels are shaped like eyes, and are filled with water, all the way up to the edge. Together they repeat the shape of an eye.
Øje, ø (translates directly to ”eye, island”) is the outcome of an intuitive process, where I’ve been working with the eye as a symbol.
Tears have the same salt concentration as the sea that humans originally developed from.
Some days the ocean’s horizon looks like the edge of an iris; a precise, dark blue line that gradually fades.
This sculpture was created with the idea that we carry horizons around under our eyelids. That the ”window of the soul” - and the ocean - are connected.
The work is now exhibited at Kunstbygningen i Vrå, as a part of the group show “Porøse grænser”, co-curated by Peach Corner. It is up until 22nd of November 2026.
